Most parents are really excited to watch their child begin walking. Why so? It is another important learning or developmental milestone of a child. Even with the increasing reported cases of injuries related to the use of baby walkers, many parents are still fond of buying walkers for their babies. Sure thing, it is fun and entertaining, but it is also dangerous for your child.
In previous years, besides from falling or being pinched by their walkers, many infants get burned or poisoned because they can easily reached countertops or storage places for harmful substances. Some children were also drowned because of their ability to move fast to swimming pools, bathtubs or toilets. With these fast rising injuries sustained by children between 5 to 15 months, the use of baby walkers have been banned in some countries or modified to lessen the risk of being sent to hospitals or clinics or even avoid death.
Walkers for babies are now made to be wider so that they can not fit any standard doorways. New baby walker designs such as those with no wheels and have seats that rotate and bounce are being introduced to the market.
When you let your child use a baby walker, make sure that you close all doors or any opening at the top of the stairs.
Do not leave your child alone when he/she is using the walker. Keep your child within your view to immediately assist him/her whenever he/she falls.
Baby walkers can pose danger to your child because mobile walkers can help them reach harmful liquids, hot surfaces, dangling appliance cords, power sockets, sources of waters, and other unsafe places in your home. Remember to be with your child at all times to prevent any dangers from happening. Walkers for babies have wheels and let the child move very quickly, so as parents, you must be alert and attentive.
